“As long as we have each other, we will never run out of problems.”

A new theme has been given and an excellent way of generating ideas from using Wiki as a source. A real novel way of using the Random article feature on the website. Pick three articles. An event, A location, and a person.

My choices are as follows

Now my focus for this RI session will be trying to create and a game that is fun to play and that will have an effective gameplay loop. I want to play with the idea of gameplay and less with getting caught up on the visual look of the game. I also want to try a develop further my understanding of Unreal and using the BluePrint system. Something that I am starting to feel more confident in using more so that my past experiences using Unity and script.

My concept for the game will be to produce an infinite runner, this type of game has been widely used and has an addictive nature due to its effective gameplay loop. The player's main focus will be the micro layer gameplay loop as mention in the previous post. I will continue to use the Miro boards as used in the previous RI session as found this to be successful in helping to plan out the project and keep track. The Use of a KanBan board will also be used.

I would have liked to have worked in a team during this session however I feel that I need to be flexible in my working and don't want to commit to anybody during this time as I know the next few weeks at work will be hectic and likely to bite into my time. I will need to plan carefully in order to achieve my goal.

In my past reflective post, I set some short term Smart goals

Short Term Goal

S - Developing my ability in using visual programming to enable my rapid prototyping to become more efficient.

M - Take part in one or two more Jams before Christmas that will allow me to practice and keep the momentum.

A - Each outcome would need to have a different Mechanic or further develop one that has been used before.

R - The activity should improve my understanding of terminology and processes.

T - I would like to be able to add two more small prototypes outside of the directed study before the end of the semester.

During this session, I will need to consider a set of targets that will be more focused on what I would like to achieve during the two week RI session while considering my previous post.

RI2 Goals

S - Create a game that demonstrates an effective Game Play Loop.

M - Playtest the game to develop the mechanics

A - Keep the gameplay simple and direct

R - The activity should improve the fun factor of the game.

T - complete within the two-week session.

Essentially I want to create a game in the time frame that is fun to play, gives the player a clear objective and measurable achievement. While at the same time improving my understanding of the Unreal Engine and visual programming.
