Week 1..... And so it begins

This week I begin to restart my education. I guess, if I think about it I never really stopped learning but this is a period I hope that will enable me to make some decisions on what I would like to do in the future. I like change as long as its constructive, I change what I do in the classroom each year. Knowing that little bit more and weeding the things out that didn't work and progressing the strengths to challenge me and my students. Starting a Masters is something I have talked about in many staff review for years, waiting for someone to come along and sign me up or advise me on what would be best, I soon realised that someone was me and it had to be me to make the choice and take the step. Its only fitting that I choose Game Development, I have spent so much of the past 9 years engrossed in it and the industry. From a complete outsider knowing nothing about the process or the industry to this point in time where I feel that maybe I'm ready to be tested.

I'm at a crossroads in my career, I think I want to teach more to a higher level but I'm held back by my lack of industry experience and qualification. I think I would like to work in the Games Industry, I have enjoyed all the interaction that I have had to date, and working with Studios to build opportunities has been a highlight of my career. It made a difference and maybe I could do more in that area. But then there is that path that you come to in the game, the path that is slightly lit, doesn't follow the narrative but there is a hint of a reward if you take it. It may lead you back to the critical path or it may offer that power-up which gives you more experience and appreciation. That one opportunity that is worth risking. But do I have enough XP, time will tell I guess.

These are all questions that I'm hoping to work through in this time. Through networking, through discussion, and through focus time in developing my skills and others. Its a journey with many levels and right now I have just loaded in.
