This weeks challenge has asked me to evaluate the effectiveness of my reflective journal. It meant that i would read back through through my my journal posts for the first time since writing them. Viewing each journal with the task of taging each entry under 5 domains.

Dispositional

Affective

Interpersonal

Cognitive

Procedural

The results are as follows.

This shows that the majority of my posts fall in the Dispositional and Procedural Domain, very often in my posts im leaning towards reflecting on my motivational behaviour. Be that discussing how i might start a project and prepare myself and my habit in working. i will reflect afterwards on how this may have been impinged in some way and that it can often take the focus. Most recently in starting the Game Jam. It also shows that i fall into the Procedural Domain, where i have taken skills i know i have and focus on improving them or developing them in a way that is more effective. Ideally i would want to learn new skills to strengthen those i already have.

An area that i think i should be improving is my Cognitive Domain, this has started to come through in the Game Jam as i start to focus on my strengths and weakness along with the procedural Domain. By doing this it should enable me to direct my learning and focus my development more towards my goals both short term and long term. Interpersonal is an area that i have shown very little concern and i would hope that this i will start to become more of a focus as i work in teams or as i approach creative problems using techniques that i have started to learn.

Short Term Goal

S - Developing my ability in using visual programming to enable my rapid prototyping to become more efficient.

M - Take part in one or two more Jams before Christmas that will allow me to practice and keep the momentum.

A - Each outcome would need to have a different Mechanic or further develop one that has been used before.

R - The activity should improve my understanding of terminology and processes.

T - I would like to be able to add two more small prototypes outside of the directed study before the end of semester.

Long Term Goal

S - Explore and have a greater understanding of the start to finish process of developing my own game to a ship-able standard.

M - Have two games where i have worked independently and as part of a team before the end of my Masters that are complete and give different perspectives on the process.

A - Independently would likely be a vertical slice of a game concept that would be to a where it may be pitched to investors. The team game would need to be a ship-able outcome.

R - This experiences will improve my understanding of the game development process and enable me to identify where my role may by in the process.

T - this will take me to completion of my Masters or should start to become clear during my final year.
